Critical Reflection

Module Learning:

At the start of this module , I aimed to refine my ability to convey technical information effectively and build confidence in presenting. Throughout the course, I have significant progress in these areas, particularly in developing my critical thinking and communication skills.

This module has provided several opportunities to strengthen these skills. Participating in discussions, presenting and receiving feedback have helped me refine my communication techniques. I have learned how to adapt my explanations for different audiences, ensuring clarity without oversimplifying technical details.

Although we only had one practice run before the presentation, I still gained valuable insights on areas for improvement and adjustments to become a better speaker, thanks to feedback from my classmates and professor. For instance, learning when to project my voice and maintain eye contact with the audience helps create engagement, making them more attentive and interested in the topic. Additionally, incorporating rhetorical questions encourages the audience to reflect on the severity of Singapore’s overflowing bin problem and its negative impact on daily life. Comparing my practice presentation to the actual day, I noticed a significant improvement in my delivery. The tips and feedback from my classmates played a crucial role in enhancing my confidence and overall presentation skills.

Overall, this module has been a transformative learning experience, allowing me to develop essential communication and presentation skills. The challenges I faced in conveying technical information effectively and engaging an audience have helped me grow personally. By applying the feedback I received, I was able to enhance my clarity, confidence and delivery too. Moving forward, I will continue to refine these skills as they are crucial for my future endeavors. 

Project learning:

One of the most valuable aspects of my research project is my writing skills. At the beginning, I found it challenging to structure my work clearly. However, as the project progressed, I realized how crucial these skills are in effectively communicating technical ideas.

Writing the reader's response on the XYZ Reality Atom AR headset contributed to my growth as a technical writer. I struggled with organizing information logically and engaging. The process of analyzing the XYZ Reality Atom AR Headset forced me to break down and explain highly technical aspects in a way that was both informative and accessible. My early drafts often contained either overly complex explanations that made it difficult to follow or that it was too empty.

Through multiple drafts and feedback sessions, I learned the importance of clarity, coherence and technical precision. I also learned how to synthesize multiple sources, integrate supporting evidence and ensure my arguments were well-structured. Additionally, I learned how to maintain a formal and professional tone while making my writing more engaging and accessible. Proper citation of sources and structuring arguments logically also became a strong focus which helps me create a well-supported an credible report.

Beyond structuring my writing, this experience helped me develop stronger analytical and critical thinking skills. Evaluating the strengths and limitations of the Atom AR headset required me to assess different perspectives and anticipate potential counterarguments. This process sharpened my ability to construct well-reasoned arguments and strengthened my ability to refine my own work. To add on, incorporating real-world examples and case studies reinforced my understanding of how to effectively use evidence to support my claims.
